Group therapy has proven to be the indicated form of treatment for many emotional health issues – depression, women survivors, psycho-social pain management, to name a few. However, many insurance types will not pay for group treatment. Pre-authorization is often required by the insurance companies.

The number one preference for treatment sought after by clientele is individual therapy. Television shows and movies romanticizes individual therapy as the Cadillac of treatment modalities, but research, in addition to the American Psychological Association, indicate that group therapy should be the top choice when considering effectiveness for many types of behavioral health issues. Do not be fooled by media hype. Trust your therapist's recommendation. Nevertheless, group therapy is often not offered because of client reluctance to attend and commitment to attending on a regular basis.
